This is probably the first thing my kids remember me cooking. I’d been making them for so long I didn’t use a recipe anymore. To write this I had to make another batch (oh, darn) and pay attention to what I was doing.
Mix together till creamy:

Butter, sugar, vanilla (dark splotch on the sugar
1 stick Butter/Margarine~ softened, 3/4 c Dark Brown Sugar, 1/4 c Granulated Sugar, 1 tsp Vanilla
Add and mix till smooth:

add egg, baking soda & salt
1 Egg, 1 tsp Baking Soda, dash of salt
Mix in:

Add flour
1 1/2 c Flour, then 1/2 pkg Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Add 1/2 bag of chocolate chips

Drop bits onto cookie sheet, makes 2 dozen
Some people use spoons or ice cream scoops to measure/form the cookies. I just divide the dough into 4 sections, pick up each section and pinch it into 6 pieces and arrange on a cookie sheet, 12 to a sheet.

A ice bake, cool on a plate
Bake at 350 Degrees Fahrenheit for 8 to 12 minutes. Makes 2 dozen cookies.

Quick! Put them in an old butter container and hide in the freezer!
Options: You can add nuts or dried fruit, use candy, different flavoured chips, or leave chips out entirely. Adding some peanut butter, cashew butter or Nutella to the butter when you cream the butter and sugar is yummy. You can also use whole wheat flour, add bran, or substitute oats for the 1/2 c flour. Play with the size, bake in muffin tins, melt chocolate or other candy on top, ice with frosting, make cookie sandwiches with ice cream, jam or frosting…experiment! I keep mine hidden in the freezer-they last (a little) longer that way. Serve warm or at room temperature with milk and don’t forget to lick the bowl. Have fun!
